Recognizing Our Outstanding Students
In April, we recognized our scholars at our 3rd Quarter Recognition Rally. The number of students honored increased from the 2nd Quarter Recognition Rally, which shows our students are finishing out the year dedicated to their education and growth as responsible citizens. Principal Hope McGuire offered a special congratulations to the March Student of the Month class nominees: Aniya McCormick, Jesse Berlenga, Mara Lovelace, Ella Rose Jones, Amir Jennings, Jordan Lee, Malachi Simpson, Lyric Young, and Miles Warrick. Way to go, scholars!

Get in the Spirit!
The Imagine Foundations II PTO invites all families to participate in a “Spirit Night” fundraiser on May 4. Just head to the Chick-fil-A at 9121 Alaking Court in Capital Heights, between 4 pm and 8 pm. Present this coupon (or this one) with the purchase of your meal, and Chick-fil-A will donate 20% of your meal total to Imagine Foundations II. Book Fair a Big Success
The PTO Fundraising Committee hosted our first Scholastic Book Fair on March 5-9, which was a huge success. We will be able to spend around $1,500 in “Scholastic Bucks” to provide various literary genres for our classrooms and to begin stocking our Media Center.

STEM Fair
We recently hosted our first STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fair, which allowed our students in Kindergarten through Grade 2 to work cooperatively on class experiments and projects and learn about the scientific method.

Edenfield Is Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Bobby Edenfield, a Grade 1 Math/Science teacher, who has been selected as the 2012 Imagine Foundations II Teacher of the Year. The annual Teacher of the Year award, which recognizes individuals for their outstanding work and dedication to their school community, is one of the highest honors an Imagine school can bestow on a staff member. Edenfield is eligible to be considered for the Maryland Region Teacher of the Year award. The regional winner will then be nominated to enter the Imagine Schools Teacher of Year award, announced later this year.

Honoring Our Scholars
We recently celebrated the achievements of all our outstanding students. In January, all scholars who earned “Student of the Month” status, from September – December 2011 — a total of 42 students! — together with their parents, were recognized by Principal McGuire at a dinner reception in the school’s multi-purpose room. A second quarter “Recognition Rally,” honoring our students in different categories, was held in February. Congrats to all our honorees!

Mr. Edenfield in the News

A Sweet Message
In February, our PTO organized the creation and delivery of “Candy Grams” as a fundraiser. Children were encouraged to “share a message” — a lollipop candy gram — with their siblings, classmates and teachers. Proceeds from the lollipop candy grams, which sold for $1 each and were delivered on Valentine’s Day, benefitted the PTO.
