The Imagine Foundations at Morningside PTO is hosting its next General Body Meeting on December 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room. All are welcome. The meeting will include an open forum and Q&A session, and members and non-members will have a chance to discuss a number of topics, including:

- Upcoming PTO fundraisers/suggestions
- School policy
- Education
- Springboard
- Community interests

The Imagine Morningside PTO has announced it will be hosting its second annual “Harvest Party” on Friday, October 26, from 6:30 – 9:30 pm. The family event, which will feature a variety of activities, including a “cake walk,” a “friendly” costume parade, Halloween-themed games, and crafts, serves as a fundraiser for the PTO. The cost of admission is $5 for adults and $7 for children (ages 2 and up) and includes food and a “treat bag.” Please click here to download the flyer for more information. During the month of September, Mrs. Zitofsky, Imagine Morningside’s Professional Counselor, will be visiting each of the classrooms to discuss DEBUG, a five-step conflict resolution strategy. DEBUG is designed to empower children to become assertive individuals and to self-manage conflicts, and it also helps to clarify the adult’s role as one of assisting children after students have attempted to resolve conflicts on their own. This is how it works:

1. Decide to ignore. If that doesn’t work…
2. Exit or move away. If that doesn’t work…
3. Be friendly. If that doesn’t work…
4. Use firm words. If that doesn’t work…
5. Get an adult.

Because the DEBUG steps can also be used and reinforced outside of the school setting, we encourage you as caretakers to know them as well. Contact Mrs. Zitofsky at 301-817-0544 for more information.

Celebrating Peace

On Friday, September 21, the Imagine Morningside community participated in the International Day of Peace, an opportunity for children and adults to create and participate in acts of peace on a shared date. In honor of “Peace Day,” we focused on the meaning of “peace,” which is the character trait for the month of September, with our students participating in a variety of peaceful activities.

Get a Job!

During the first few weeks of school, students in Ms. Stone’s and Ms. Lassus’ third grade classes have been learning about setting goals and taking responsibility for their education. They outlined paths to the future, thinking about what their dream jobs might be, and what kind of work they will have to do to get there. The third grade team felt that the best way to get the students invested in school and their futures was to help them practice applying for jobs. First, the students and teachers brainstormed a list of classroom jobs and developed a job application for each student to fill out. Students had to reflect on their best skills and talents and asked family and friends for letters of recommendation. The process concluded with an offer letter that was given to them after their job interview.
